Special Olympics of Chester County provides free, year-round sports training and athletic competition in 17 Olympic-type sports for individuals with mental retardation. This provides the athlete with continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness skills, express courage and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Oympics athletes and the community.
Troop 78 is a boy-led troop that relies on the leadership skills of the Senior Patrol Leader, his Senior Assistants and the individual Patrol Leaders to set the Troops schedule for the year, to run Troop meetings and to organize outings. The boy leadership is guided by very experienced BSA-trained adult leaders, many of whom have been involved with this program for over 30 years and were themselves scouts with Troop 78. Troop 78 stresses traditional scout skills such as camping and cooking, first aid, swimming and knot tying, along with a commitment to community service.
